Self-guided walking holidays in Switzerland, luggage transported, itineraries, trails and single centre
Walking holidays in Switzerland typify all that is outstanding about a walking holiday. Switzerland is perfect walking country. There are well-marked tracks, trails and paths that climb mountainsides but also meander through pastureland and forest. The terrain is suited to many different levels of experience and ability and a huge benefit is that access to wide vistas and the mountain walks is quick and easy by cable-cars, chairlifts and trains. Also, the infrastructure is so well developed so that it is easy to plan a walk knowing that there will be a train or a bus at the end to bring you back to base. Much of the appeal of walking in Switzerland is that with the height you really feel as if you’re walking on top of the world. The views are truly awe-inspiring and invigorating, as is the sense of freedom you gain. Even within a relatively small area, you experience a variety of terrain, from mountain pastures to pine forests, from boggy lakesides usually with abundant flowers to narrow footpaths along mountain ridges. Walking in Switzerland is less about discovering the flavour of each region, although local architecture and ways of farming are obvious, but about discovering yourself and witnessing the strength and beauty of nature. Our walking holidays in Switzerland are self-guided and either follow a trail or itinerary or are based in one location for several days with the opportunity to take local walks on a daily basis. You enjoy the freedom of walking and being independent, yet know that arrangements for your accommodation and luggage have been made for you in advance, and you are provided with our own detailed route and guidance notes.

Where you stay
The accommodation in Switzerland offered by Creative Walks will be determined by the itinerary of the walking tour. In some cases there is more choice than in others but you can rest assured that we select accommodation, whether it be a 3-star family run hotel, a mountain lodge or a grand hotel, that it is typical of your region, of high standards and character. The owners of Creative Walks have many years’ experience in staying in hotels throughout Switzerland, and use hotels that have been chosen to be right for the itinerary and our clients. When the walking holiday is based in one location, then a choice of accommodation is easier to offer.
Travel arrangements
Creative Walks in Switzerland includes baggage transfers on itineraries and some local car transfers on some single stay holidays. Our arrangements start and end in location and do not include any methods of transport from your home to the start of the tour. However, there is usually a wide choice of transport possibilities, depending on the location, and we can give you advice on what is possible, but you book your own flights, trains and hire-car to suit your own requirements.
Support
One of the great benefits with booking a walking holiday with Creative Walks is that you receive documentation from people who know the trail, the route or the area you’re visiting. You are provided with detailed route notes, maps and local information. The trails we offer are well-walked by the people who have put the itineraries together. You benefit from that experience. Moreover, between Creative Walks and our local agents, you are guaranteed support 24 hours a day.

Self-guided walking holidays in Switzerland, luggage transported, itineraries, trails and single centre
Walking holidays in Switzerland offer outstanding walking and holiday experiences for walkers of all levels of experience. Packed into this petite, land-locked country are many of the highest mountain peaks in Europe, beneath which sit wooded valleys, rich pastures, mountain tracks, magnificent glaciers and waterfalls, and cosy villages. The Swiss countryside is awash with yellow signposts that not only point you in the right direction but give you average timings too. The infrastructure, too, works brilliantly with transport connections by train, mountain railway, cable-car and chairlift so that you can gain easy access to the top of the world and enjoy it at varying degrees of experience. Not only that, but at the top of most cable cars or chairlifts, you’ll find a cosy mountain restaurant, or along the mountain tracks, farms will offer shade and refreshments. The most popular regions of the country for walking, primarily due to their dramatic mountains, the awe-inspiring scenery and the wide choice of mountain footpaths are the Bernese Oberland and the Zermatt area. However, the less well-known regions of Saanenland, near Gstaad and the Simmental, as well as the Lake Lucerne area, are also very attractive and with the mountains being lower, less overpowering. Switzerland will surprise the unfamiliar visitor with its very real regional traditions and culture.
